    Default Battery Good Enough?

I have a Lawn n garden battery which at the moment powers my fish finder. Would that battery also work for a 30lb trolling motor? If so how long would it last on full charge?? Thank you!!

Not very long. Without knowing the specs on the battery and how high you run the motor it would be less than 1 hr for sure.

Back when I was a kid, we used to Run MK10s and MK15s off of 'em on very small boats to make due and they did surprisingly well as far as lasting for a fishing trip, where they would let you down was lasting from year to year. Course, a 10 is like 12# of thrust and an 15 was like 18#. Then again, we were making do and had paddle backups.

I currently use a Stow-away deep cycle that the same size as a lawn mower battery. I use it with a 30# MK hand controlled on my Pelican 10 footer. I don't troll with this boat and the battery lasts all day. No continuous run times longer than 3/4 minutes at various speeds.

IF it's all you got I'd say give it a try, but I wouldnt get too far away from the ramp either. Keep some paddles closeby.

Head into the wind when launching, so when the batt quits you blow back to the same side with a shorter walk.

No idea about actual run time, but you'll shorten battery life considerably by discharging the battery excessively (below 50%). Batteries are only good for so many cycles (discharging/recharging), and the type you have isn't a "deep-cycle". By the time you replace it a couple times, you could have purchased a battery made for powering your TM.

Lawn batteries don't get much bigger than 32 minute RC. Compare that to around 135 minutes for the smallest group 24 deep cycles and you won't have much run time compared to a TM battery.

Running a conventional battery in a deep cycle application will considerably shorten its life.

Whitten, if you choose to run the TM using that battery, do so. But you'll find that once it dissapoints you, you'll be looking to get a deep cycle. So save up and get the best deep cycle you can afford. I believe in using what you have until you can afford something better.

I'll be using it on my Pelican 116. Does Walmart carry that battery?? Would you happen to have any pics of your motor set up?? Thank you!!
