CatFan is spot on this one. I'll say "MOST" manufactuers have the specialized crew that are trained more in depth than the people on the production line. I've bought several things over the internet that were reconditioned/refurbished. I've never had a problem with any of them. My latest buy was a Milwaukee 12" sliding double compound Miter saw with digital readout of the angles last fall. It retails for $750 and I bought it refurbed for $495. It blows away Dewalt and most other popular brands. I had been looking at the Hitachi in the same price range. I would prefer to have bought a Kapex, but didn't have the cash for the Top of the line Miter saw.

I might be wary of electronics reconditioned, I guess it would depend on what the warranty would be.
