You may be able to put a 798 on the console to do what you want. You will need an ethernet cable and an ethernet adapter cable to connect the two units together.

I have an 898 on the bow with TM TD...I love this set-up as I am on the front 80% of the time...
What I want is a unit at the console that will share the TM TD and the 898 external antenna & also be able to mark waypoints from the console that will show up on the 898..I know this is a strange set-up but I can lock my TM straight ahead and use my outboard to run 3-4 mph with the TM down...
If this is possible which unit would you suggest at the console & what ethernet cables, etc would I need? Bet you Bass Boys have never seen a request like this...![]()
I sure could use a little help......![]()

If you go with the 798 make sure you get the 798CI HD SI as the non HD unit does not support ethernet.
Now let's talk about the GPS part:: I want to be able to mark a waypoint at the console sharing the external antenna that I have mounted on the front by my 898..I don't want to have waypoints marked from the front & waypoints marked from the console..I want all waypoints to be marked using 1 antenna because that antenna is very close to my TD where most of my time is spent...
I hope I am making this clear...
More help please...

When you mark a waypoint and you are using Ethernet the waypoint is saved on the unit that you mark the waypoint on. However if you have waypoint sharing turned on, and both units are on you can see the waypoint on the unit. It is not saved to both units.
If you want to save on both units you would need to use the interlink vs ethernet feature.
Interlink allows you to only share gps and waypoints. Ethernet allows you to share sonar, temperature, gps, and view waypoints from both units.
Hmmmmmmmmm...let's try this::
Can I share 1 antenna with 2 units as long as both are HDSI units...? We are talking waypoints......

This may help.
Humminbird Ethernet Overview
You can share waypoints using ethernet but both units must be on. The waypoint will be stored only on the unit that was used to mark it. You can use an SD card to save nav data and transfer it to the other unit.

And you can select to have your console unit use the transducer and GPS Receiver from the bow mounted unit. That way when you mark a waypoint using your console unit it will be with the same transducer and GPS Receiver that the bow mounted unit is using so you will get the same accuracy as if you marked the waypoint with the bow unit to begin with.
The console unit does not have to be an HDSi unit unless you want to be able to see all of the same sonar on it as you do on your 898 unit. Let me know which unit you are thinking about for your console and I should be able to tell you what sonar you will be able to share.
