    Question Dim 998si


    On a diff. Forum, anybody else know about this fix ?

    e-mailed this question; i am considering buying a 998 but read on most boards that the 998 has screen brightness issues that other models do not have. what has humminbird done or plan to do to address this issue?

    This issue has been addressed in the 998c SI Combo systems and in the event a system has been purchased that does not have the remedy included it can be sent back to us to have it corrected at no charge.

    I know of no changes to the 998c Si Combo units that increased the brightness of the display. There was a change that was made to allow the display to be dimmed farther than the 997c Si Combo units but I believe that this was done from the start of production of the 998c Si unit.

    Thanks Greg, I was on BBC forum and read this in a post and I read on most posts that the 898/ 998 are dim, and maybe this could help some of the guys /? So maybe this Email wasn't from HB ? this guy got ?

    The 898/998 units are certainly not as bright as the newer 1198 units. The e-mail could have been from someone at Humminbird as they may have gotten the dimming modification mixed up along with the 1198 having a brighter display all in their brain. Dunno’ the Customer Resource folks here have a lot that they have to remember about all the models of units we have made.

    A point of interest I have found in my 1197....(kinda related to the OP/kinda not)....

    I notice if I wear a dark colored shirt the screen "seems" brighter...due to fact that the screen reflection off of a light colored shirt overpowers (washes out) the image on the screen....

    Maybe HB needs to send a new Dark colored HB shirt with all there new 898/998 si , Ha ha, LOL, thanks
