How can I tell which map (Contour XD or Unimap) is pre-loaded on my 898c?

Easy: all of the 898c Si units were made with the ContourXD maps. These replaced the UniMap in some of the models we make but the 800 series units never had the UniMap.

Thanks for this response and the other one, as well. It appears that the Navionics Platinum maps don't have coverage for a small portion of Wheeler Lake in Alabama. But, it just so happens that area is one I fish regularly. Oh well.............

Newer Navionics chips don't show a lot of the flats around Decatur nor do they have very good detail on the shallower creeks in that area. They show the deeper creeks and the river by the dam pretty good though.

The lowrance units built-in insight map shows the same information as Hot Maps paper maps. I'm pretty sure this information came from the surveys before they impounded the lake.

Hi Greg,do you know if I can mount a transducer for a 798 ci HD si on my trolling motor. I heard that you could not . Is there a easy fix . I have a 06 ranger ,it came with a lowrance 102c up front.I bought a I pilot tm with the trans in the head I know I can't use that trans but I would like to have the trans up front , for trolling .don't like the lowrance can't get it to adjust to make me happy. Thanks Paul

That's the area I'm talking about (Decatur Flats). I have an HDS5 with the built-in map. It does a great job of showing the various ditches from Cowford down to the railroad bridge. Without it, it used to take me about 30 minutes to go from Cowford to Beulah Bay. Now I can do it in about 10 minutes.

My buddy just bought a Humminbird 898c and paid $200 for the Navionics Platinum. That's $1700 total. You'd think that for that kind of money you could get what Lowrance gives you for free.

    Paul,
The standard transom mounted XNT-9-Si-180-T transducer can be mounted to the trolling motor if you use an adapter (ours or one from another company) but you would be better off using the XTM-9-Si-180-T transducer as it is made for the trolling motor and it has an additional layer of shielding that the transom mount one does not. You may or may not need this additional shield – all depending on how much RF energy your trolling motor puts off. The only way to know for sure is to mount the transducer and test it. If this is a new transducer and hardware that has not been installed yet, than I would call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks at 1-800-633-1468 and trade it out for the trolling motor version (XTM-9-Si-180-T) and install it instead.

Yep, I paid less than he did, but got the same deal...crappie mapping on Wheeler.

I'd like to see your HDS maps of Guntersville's North Sauty on West side of the bridge.... Navionics shows the same thing you see on Decatur flats.
