    Question Minn kota troll motor

I have a 45 Ib Minn kota trolling motor on my 17 ft. Triton alum. boat and I don't think it's quiet big enough. It just don't pull it that fast.
What is ya'll's opition on trolling motor size for a 17 foot boat??
    I was thinking 70 Ib???

Kbaker, I just took off a 65# tm off a 17' deep V fiberglass Ranger and that thing would whip the boat around real good. So yea, a 65 or 70 lb would be plenty big.

I have a 70lb on my 18' stratos and it pulls great even into a strong wind. You will be happy with 65 or 70.

I agree with a 70. That is what I used on my 17' alum boat and it was great.

I used to have a bare bones 1756 with nothing but a gun box and side console in it. The 40 I had on it would work unless I had to hold or troll against the wind all day. It would be getting weak by the end of a long day. As far as power goes, it was enough, in the morning. It really needed another battery on there though, for additional capacity. If you have more than basically a 17' hull though, better go with the bigger thrust as advised.

I'd go as big as you can with variable speed. To me, it's better to have more power then I need, but total control over the speed. Plus, you never know when you'll need the extra power, storms seem to appear out of nowhere.

Guess what? I took my prop off of my troll motor the other day and It was packed with fishing line. Maybe this was slowing my motor down. Have not been fishing sense I removed the line. Will be going soon.

Keep a close eye on it. Fishing line destroys seals.
