hey folks, I need some advise on some trollingmotor problems. I have a motorguide wireles 24V 75lbs of thrust, built in transducer. I purchased it new in sept of 07, in 08 it stopped taking signal to turn so I had warranty work done. in 09 the transmission bolts fell out and the case halves seperated, so back to the warranty shop it went. last summer the transmission wouldn't turn one day while fishing, but it started working again, mysteriously, later on that day. well now it turns on high power the moment you plug it in, I can,t turn it down and I can't turn it off. and the transmission turns really slow. because it's out of warranty, I had a local shop (and a friend or mine) look at it. well, turns out the control module is out and that is 400$ installed, and a in the transmission it turns out that all the components, except for the small steering motor, are PLASTIC. farther more they don't offer any service parts for the tranny. sold as an assembly only and another 200+ to fix that. 600 dollars to fix a 700 dollar troller that is less than 4 years old?
to top it all off, I can't find any info out there to get in touch with motorguide directly, everything I find says to to contact one of their service centers.
so, my question is how would ya'all handle this situation? who do I contact, and what can I ask for to make this right? Ultimatly I feel like they owe me a new unit, but maybe thats out of line? if I could talk to the right person I'd just ask for the parts to fix it, and then pay my local shop to install them. But, who would that person be, and how can I get in contact with them?
thanks in advance for the advise
