Lss1 is not a thru hull ducer, it needs to be mounted to the transom or better yet a jack plate. The 2D (puck or skimmer) is the thru hull. You need both ducers close together and as close to center as possible

Has anyone installed the thru hull lss1 transducer, and if so, how or will it affect the performance of the boat? My other question about this is , do you have to mount the ducer close to the center of boat as possible? Thanks in advance

The 99-003 is a thru-hull for the LSS.
What kind of boat and motor do you have? It's going to be tough to find an acceptable mounting spot on many boats, especially planing hulls If you have any V at all in the area you want to mount, you are going to have to block the transducer so it sticks down far enough to see both sides. It's going to slow you down, and could potentially disrupt water flow to the prop if your boat is very fast.
If you need the thru-hull and can't center mount, they make a Y cable that lets you use two transducers, one for left and one for right to get full coverage.
Having trouble making up my mind which fish finder to get, looking at HB 798 or something like it ,I would like the transducer up front on the tm but bps is saying not to any body have any input oh ya I have a I pilot tm. Thanks![]()

well right now i have a 17.5' blue fin deepv,85 force, and just looking at the transom looks like the outboard will be in the way. the 2 transducer option crossed my mind, but if i read rite doesnt the 2d ducer have to be a foot or less from lss-1 ducer, so how does that work with this setup?

The recommendation is for the 2D transducer to be close to the LSS transducer to get good alignment on the sonar overlay mode. You'll still get good results with SS and DS.
If you post a couple of pictures of your transom and OB, maybe somebody can help you decide. I have a glass boat with very little set back and I have a conventional transom mount on mine with good results.
