Question for/about Humminbird 788

I just hooked up my Humminbird 788 that had been returned for warranty service. Recently (prior to the warranty service) I had downloaded the upgrade 5.400 on it so it would Interlink with my 898, which has the 5.410 upgrade on it. When I checked the 788, it has been factory loaded with version 4.510 during repairs, which will not allow it to Interlink with the 898. Is there an issue with the software version 5.400 for the 788? We suspected that a software issue wiped the operating system off the 788, requiring the warranty repairs. I need to load the software that will allow the Interlink to work but don't want to wipe out the 788 like before.

Any ideas? Any ideas why Humminbird would not have loaded the latest version on it during warranty service?

I can't begin to answer your question, but I'd be calling humminbird direct and asking them. It's a little bit of a pain having to wait on hold for someone, but generally they are pretty helpful. You might also try messaging Humminbird Greg direct. I had questions and he was good about addressing each one. I'm very interested in what you find out. My plan is to install and 898 on my dash and interlink it with a 788hd di on the bow of my boat. If your having issues with them synching together, I'd sure like to know before I take the plunge.

You would loose your personal settings and possibly other data. The updates resets unit defaults before loading the program. So I eeeexpect they (HB) wouldn't wanna pee anyone off doing the updates.......

Are you sure that is not 5.410 software on your 788 unit?
Which model 788 doe you have: 788c, 788ci, 788ci NVB, 788ci HD, 788ci HD DI?
The unit should have been shipped out with the latest software on it which would have been 5.400 or 5.410 depending on the actual model.

Greg, the system status screen on my 788c says it has version 4.510 installed. I do know it will not link to my Interlink. The accessories screen does not even show the Interlink.

It's not a big deal to upload the version 5.410 but I was just curious why my repair invoice said the latest software had been installed then version 4.510 shows up on the status screen. My original question; is the version 5.410 OK to install with no expected issues?

Hmmm, may be a case of someone’s dyslexia kicking in there mrdux. I would go ahead and load the 5.410 software.
