    Default Motor Guide Warranty

First off I copied this from another forum and it is not mine. Just curious if anyone has had similar experience with Motor Guide.

bought a brand new great white trolling motor from west marine less than 13 months ago presumably with a 2 year factory warranty plus west marine basically threw in their extended 2 year warranty for $3.95 so i bought that too. fastforward to today, having a problem with it i took it over to my local trolling motor repair place in town for repair which they did for me the same day , i pick up said motor and come home only to get a call from my repair man saying motorguide has refused the warranty claim due to the fact my motor was manufactured back in 2003, evidentaly i must have purchased a display model and motorguide says any motor over 6 years old is exempt from any warranty regardless of whether it was purchased new or not so thank goodness i still have their extended warranty to fall back on however this does reduce my warranty from 4 years down to 2 years i have half of a mind to carry this thing back to west marine and demand a complete refund as i purchased it under the assumption it was a brand new motor with full factory warranty which obviously it isnt , the moral of my story is be carefull when purchasing stuff like this cause evidentaly the manufactures wash their hands of warranties after a certain amount of time, motorguides policy is 6 years

If you really like the TM, personally I would just go with it. He still has the 2 year warranty for $4 and most things that break happen in the 1st couple of years anyway.
I had the same thing happen on a $700 Lowrance depth finder about 8 or 10 years ago. I bought the unit from Cabela's and when it had a problem, I called Lowrance. The guy asked for the serial # and then told me no way the unit was 1 year old. He then told me to send a receipt which I did to prove date of purchase. They replaced the unit free of charge. The service guy said the unit had to have been sitting on a shelf for a long time.
To this day, I still think that is the best DF I have ever used and I have a new HDS.
As I get older, I try to find way to resolve conflicts with out all the drama. Too many people are just to eager to be mad all the time.

I agree whole heartedly that being courteous will result in better outcomes. Just thought it was odd that a company would set warranty dates off manufacture dates. I normally bust mine up on oyster beds while flounder gigging or kids fallin on em. Unfortunately those issues are not warranted.
