Yes it is slower in turning due to the electric steering. But this is also what allows the auto pilot, co-pilot and iPilot steering. I have had auto pilot for many years and the slower response does not bother me. I have noticed that some people with cable control seem to generate more trolling motor propwash holding in one area.
I have a terrova 80#. Today, I used the foot control. My brother in law was visiting. Doesn't fish much. I took him out pushing corks. Everytime he baited a hook, landed a fish, adjusted a jig, he jammed the butt of my rods into the toe of my foot control. The first time that TM started spinning right, I thought it had lost its mind!
During normal fishing with me and my boy Lit'lest Sty, I've found myself with both hands full. I've since started forcing myself to use the foot control to better prepare for those type situations. They do pop up and it helps not to run into brush while juggling a couple of fish or worse... a couple of hang ups!

With the finer speed increments with the Ipilot, I hardly ever use the foot control. I keep it stowed most of the time.
I installed the powerdrive v2 with i-pilot two weeks ago after removing the motorguide. Excellent decision on my part. Like you said, a big price difference just for the convience of a foot pedal on the terrova... didn't seem worth it to me. I don't miss the foot pedal on my motorguide at all. The i-pilot worked well last weekend with the 30 mph winds we had on toledo bend lake.

I guess I never used my previous cable steered MK to snap the head around in rapid fashon. I may be the only person that thinks that the Terrova electric steering is a little too fast. I found myself having to go back to the direction that I wanted to steer because I held the pedal down too long an passed it up. Obviously im accustomed to a slower turning rate. Maybe in the Terrova V2 MK should make the turning rate, adjustable. It shouldn't be too hard to add a small dial somewhere to do that. Or a Hi med lo switch.

I don't use the foot control but it is nice to know that I have a backup, if the remote batteries die and the spares are dead too. Like stated somewhere earlier I think. I wouldn't want to be dead in the water for lack of a remote battery.
I use them about 50 =50 depends on how lazy I feel, yesterday I touched the foot control on time, that was to move it out of the way, I pulled cranks 3 hours and kept saying darn this is nice.
Never had my foot control connected. Like others have said. Not the thing for heavy cover due to delay in steering.
