    Question Blown Fuse Ipilot ?

Went fishing last week and my HB 565 started acting up, every time the TM started or changed speeds I would get black lines up & down on the screen about half way up ??? got home took head off of my Terrova I- Pilot 24 v US2 and found 3 amp blown fuse ?? replaced fuse, now if the motor starts or changes speed I will get a short burst of lines about 1/2 inch or so then will go away until the next speed change ??? didn't notice this before the blown fuse, but it could have been doing it as long as I've had it set up this way, Tried a diff. transducer on the 565 and no interference, so is this something that all US2 do ??? or do I need something to fix this ?? I can live with the short burst every once in awhile but still don"t like it .Also why would the fuse blow in the case ground ??
    THANKS:D

I'd like to see a schematic of their trolling motors. My Terrova is causing some interference on the front unit but I am not using US2. My fuse is good and I have continuity from the negative to the bolt that holds the prop on. I'm going to try some other things once I get my unit back.

The V2 US2 transducer shield (which is grounded to the TM motor housing) couples thru the Head unit and makes connection to the starter battery if the starter battery is the source of power/ground. The brown fuse wire inside the TM housing ties TM ground (not the TM PWM ground) to the TM housing. Big ground loop.

I don't know about Terrova, but prob the same.

Here is a circuit I just drew up based on what I have metered. Should be pretty close.

From all the complaints about US2 it's more of a headache than it's worth. It makes the troller cost more then you have to spend more to get rid of the screen "noise" that it causes. JMO.
Yes a corded TD on the troller has cord issues, but with a little care when deploying and retrieving it can be handled easily.

Do you have an on board charger? If so, try disconnecting it. Also feel the US2 transducer cable and see if it is getting "warm".

After reviewing my own drawing, a poor TM ground connection could also cause excessive current thru the fused wire.

Check at the battery post and by removing the cover at the TM. The power is plugged into the TM module via spade lug. Just cause it came from the factory don't mean it can't come loose or corrode. Just a scientific guess here.

Take your meter and measure between TM batt negative and the crank batt negative with the sonar head unit plugged but no power turned on. You should read near continuity. Unscrew the knurled us2 cable. Check to see that the connection between the TM batt negative and start batt is now open (after you undo the pig tail cable). If you are still reading ground, then you have something else shorting the battery negatives together.
