Now to the damage part. The trolling motor is now extremely difficult to turn with the foot pedal. I am having to darn near stand on the foot pedal to turn the motor. Do you think that I may have bent the shaft?

Help please!
There is a new company down in Texas that makes a straightener that you can use yourself in such a situation. The company is Straighteneze.com. Check them out. I bought one and now it's in my boat because I bent mine too and it would take too long at a shop.
