It won't work great while the troller is turning, ever see one of those swirly pictures? Looks about like that.

Does side imaging work as well on the trolling motor as on a fixed transum? Wondering what happens when you are turning the trolling motor??

It's all over but the fryin'......
It works but you have to understand the limitations.
A couple of examples where it helps.
When you're pulling, you can use the big motor as a rudder, keep the TM stationary and whoever is up front will get the same picture as the guy in the back.
If you're fishing stationary you can rotate the TM to verify the direction of the fish or whatever interests you without running over it.

There's lots of guys and pics that use the SI Xducer on their TM...here...Yahoo! Groups - Join or create groups, clubs, forums & communities
You'll have to register (for free)...and then go the sideimaging group...
It can be done effectively...but as Stymie noted...you have to know the limitations

So the best place to start would be on the transum and then tie the coordinates to the front unit?? Question is Lowrance or Hummingbird? Have been reading about both on this site and other articles. Not much throwing me one way or the other..I have a Lowrance 27C built into the steering column and a small lowrance unit in the front. If i buy an HDS 8 and move the 27 to the front can i tie the HDS 8 into the 27C--if so i would only have to buy one unit now..this could be the decision maker?? Will this work?
I think down imaging would be more effective from the trolling motor then SI, but again, when you turn the motor,it will look freaky for a time. With Lowrance, if you have two HDS units, you only need on LSS-1 and you can view the transom ducer from both units. I do this quite a bit. I'll have 2D from the ducer on the trolling motor on one side, and The LSS-1 on the other. I plan to get another LSS-1, but for now this works quite well. As of this moment, the Lowrance GPS will be more effective for you , if you slow troll, or like to sit on submerged structure. See the "donut" thread. Wouldn't hurt for you to let HB know that you would buy one, if the donut was fixed. Enjoy whatever you buy, either way.
So the 27C if moved to the front would only be able to be linked to the HDS 8 for coordinates--would not be able to run Down imaging on the 27C from the LSS-1??? Have been reading about the donut and this is definatly a concern since i do slow troll. My understanding is the arrow when going from one waypoint to another shows up as a donute on the HB when traveling at speeds below .4 mph??
