    Default Mark 5x dsi

There's been a lot of talk about the new mark 5x dsi and I'm considering one for the front of my boat. Has anyone actually mounted one and had it on the water? Are the images of brush and bottom as clear as they make them out to be in the advertisement. Thanks.

The Downscan images are inferior to HDS's linked with LSS-1's. The screen resolution is fine, but the Elite and Mark units do not contain high definition processors. Conventional sonar looks fine and the internal GPS antenna works good.

These units remind me of the 500 series LMS's with the addition of scroll back sonar history (not available on Mark 5x or 5x Pro). The Gold mapping bundle is disappointing. Apply that money towards a Navionics chip.

Thanks. The mark 5x doen't have the GPS just down imaging. I really don't feel the need for GPS since I'm very familiar with the lakes I fish. I would like a better quality image than i get with my 2d? that came on my bass tracker.

Installed the Elite on my buddys boat a couple of days ago. The picture was ok but seemed to me that it was "fuzzy". Thought that it might have been the type of wire that I ran for power (not enuff insulation) and was causing some noise on the screen, or that maybe the water has a lot of stuff floating because of the rough wave action from the last couple of days. Not sure.
We are going to try some wire w/thicker insulation and see what happens.
Just got thru installing the LSS-1 on my boat and will try out later today. Sure hope it has a cleaner picture.
