Well, after making a mention of the donut, someone asked what it was and I explained it. I said the "DONUT" makes the gps useless. So Tmike follows up with 4 pictures of himself, and 1 of some skinny dude holding bass and included the following text.
"Duncan, "Useless". I fish submerged structure with Humminbird GPS??? Been doing it for years in fact. The GPS is very accurate and it's "useless"??? I smell another "Ficton"
Here's a few useless spoon (brushpile) fish to go with your post."
So again, even tmike is not understanding, or not admitting that this is an issue. And he makes a comparison to a guy called fishton that they ran off of the board (he was a big Lowrance guy). Doh So instead of addressing the issue, he compares me to a dude that they hate, because he pimped Lowrance so much. This will make most of the guys that read it ignore it.
Maybe blueball or one of the other guys can mention it also over there on BBC.

I challenge TMike to a slow trolling duel. Speed must be .4 mph or less. Speed and direction must be recorded and witnessed.
Winner gets bragging rights and a new Toyota floor mat.

He's come back now and said it's a bass site and they don't fish at .4. He said he passed on the info to HB.
We need to make these people understand it's not about bashing HB, it's about trying to help them make their product better and help them make more sales as a result, what is the deal? I've seen a couple of fishing shows recently (HooknLook and maybe the Mark Zona show)where the host was running an HB sonar and at some point you can see the sonar on the tv screen while they're fishing and if it's on a map screen, there's that donut. All of those guys know about it and they just don't want to admit it, really sad.
It's all over but the fryin'......
got asked this question over on the TFF and since i havent seen a unit in a few months cant verify for sure, but can one of you confirm the question about seeing speed even with the donut....
"One more question: If below .5 mph do the units still display your speed? even with the 'donut' displayed?
I know my current machine(nothing new, maybe 5-6 yrs old) at very slow speed to still, will show my last direction, but if the boat drifts in a circle without significant ground speed the boat indicator(arrow) doesn't always move the direction my boat is pointed.
I'm guessing this is very similar to the 'donut' issue except HB changes the direction arrow to a circle. Does this sound about the same?
I'm sure the newer units have much faster gps refresh rates and can track way better than what I'm used to."
Yes, they display your speed below 0.5.

Speed don't help much if you don't have a relative bearing.
