And that is plain WRONG! You pay for license for a map card you should be able to use it on as many devices as you like. IMO

Interlink allows sharing waypoints, routes, and tracks....but requires extra interlink module and cables...

Ethernet allows sharing waypoints, routes, tracks, 2d sonar, DI images (as long as both units are DI capable) and SI images (as long as both units are SI capable)...requires only a cable (extra module "interlink" not needed).

One point to remember with the above statements with the DI sharing over ethernet is (Down Imaging from Side Imaging) and (DownImaging) are two different technologies and aren’t compatible over Ethernet.

Doug explains this pretty well here...http://www.crappie.com/crappie/fishi...formation.html

I agree... for the amount of money one has to pay for these cards...

Navionics is just like any other business...they want as much of your money that they can squeeze out of you....

Thank rnvinc, I thought I had saw something about that somewhere, looks like if I read it right, I can have 2d and DI on both units, the units being 898si and 788ci HD DI, is that correct ??

and also is this available now or is there some wait on something to do with software ??

    thanks

The interlink module comes with cables, a ten footer and a twenty footer.

But If I were buying new right now, I wouldn't get interlink. I'd go ahead and get an ethernet cable and wait til the ethernet update comes out.

That's with the 788 HD DI, not the 788ci correct? I don't think the non-DI units have a cable jack.

This is from doug's post...The DownImaging that comes from a Side Imaging Unit will not transfer via Ethernet to a DI unit. For example if I hook up a 1198 and 788ci HD DI unit the only information they can share is the 200kHz Downlooking sonar. No DownImaging information will be shared.

I would assume this to be true for your 898 also...

Because the 898 DI data is derived from the SI data (DI data is from the SI crystals)

DI in the 788ci HD DI (DI data is from DI dedicated crystals)

Therefore your 788ci HD DI cannot read the DI (or SI) from the 898

I'm not sure..but I think you are correct that the 788ci doesn't have the ethernet cable plug....

I don't see it listed in Doug's post...

2D sonar units will only receive 2D sonar over the Ethernet
    Examples: 778c HD, 788ci HD, 858c,958c,1158c

Side Imaging Units can receive 2D, DownImaging from Side Imaging and Side Imaging Sonar over Ethernet
    Examples: 798ci SI, 898c SI, 998c SI, 1197c SI, 1198c SI

DownImaging units can only receive 2D Sonar and DownImaging Sonar
    Example: 788ci HD DI
