Greg i know before to switch from one transducer to the other we had to have a switch, is that going to be the same with ethernet? meaning if i am at the console and want to see the sonar data from my front unit, how do i tell the machine that? the switch or a program selectable option?

When HB gits the donut fixed, I will git me a 898. I got some daylight viewable monitors. I ain't holding my breath on the donut fix though.

Thanks for all the input. I overlooked the Ethernet part of the Humminbird web site. I am really liking the direct connect idea better than the interlink. Wish I had the dough to hook two 900 series together but guess I will have to strain my eyes for a few more years. The 700 series are closer to budget.

Greg, if I am running two 788ci HD DI, you said an adapter was needed for the Ethernet connection on 700 series. I am assuming two adapters (1 for each unit). Since I am running two DI units, I will be able to view the DI info on either unit regardless of which one has the transducer hooked to it. Is that right? If so, I can run one unit off the bow using the 2d sonar off the US2 on the Minn Kota V2 and the console will have the other unit & DI transducer off the transom. If I understand you correctly, I will be able to Ethernet connect the two and switch views on the bow unit to see the DI info off the transom transducer. Correct?

I hope so. It is sounding like the best option for me right now money wise.

    jsplinter,
We are actually looking at monitors like that for our manufacturing area. Pretty expensive if you ask me as we can buy a PC and monitor for about the same money!

I have not seen the Ethernet software in action but guess that this would all be done through a menu selection versus a switch.

    CP,
I’m going to make another pitch to a few folks about the “donut” and it will include a few possible solutions. For some reason they seem to have dug in their heels about this.

    Shine Runner,
Yes, you will need two of the AS-EC-QDE cables plus one of the AS-EC-XXE cables to connect two 788ci HD Di units.

The way that I understand our Ethernet connection will work; you should be able to see the DI sonar from either XNT-9-DI-T transducer on either 788ci HD DI unit. Since you are planning on using the US2 sonar from the trolling motor on one of these units, you will be able to see the DI sonar from the transom transducer on either unit and the US2 sonar on either unit. Again, I have not seen the Ethernet software in action so I can only go by what we have been told so far.

Greg, tell them you have proof that actual HB users are sending prospective buyers to Lowrance because of the "Donut"...

Maybe if they see their losing $$ to Lowrance simply because of the "donut"...??
