    Default I need purchasing advice

I'm thinking of buying the new Humminbird 597ci HD DI Combo from bps. Thinking of puting it on a ram mount at my console and running it with a switch to swap from the transom to the TM (Just spinning it when I get up to fish). I really want something that has GPS, color, and I really like this new down imaging. What are your thoughts? I'm going to pull the trigger on something the first week of February.

I would get something with a big a screen as I could afford, they are hard to see from front to console,

I spin my lowrance HD8 arround once in awhile and it works great, sharp image from a distance,

I had a HD 5 and the screen was to small, so be sure to back off a few feet and check out what is visible from front to middle of boat. good luck

I agree, look around a bit, I guarantee you can beat BPS prices.

I saved $100 on my Lowrance Elite 5 DSI by looking around the net...The UPS man dropped it off today only took 4 days to get it.I'm happy with that service and price.

Thanks for the input. I'm going to look around some and see what I can do. This unit was just put on the market in Jan 2011. You know how this new stuff is and there is usually no budging on the prices for a while.

HBirds come right off the base very easily. Mount a second base in the front and just move it from console to the bow when you fish. The splitter you mentioned, Y cable, is at least 20 bucks if I remember right, an extra base probably aint much more. Just another option and then it would be easier to see the screen.

Cabelas has always had better electronic prices for me then BPS. Can always get their credit card to get the 50 or 100 dollar instant discount and then cut the card up when it comes in the mail.

You'll like the down image and the color. I couldnt go back to black/white screen.
