I am trying to choose between a Lowrance HDS 10 and a Humminbird 1198. Which one would be superior in regards to performance, reliability, and customer service?

It appears that the side imaging and down imaging come with the Humminbird and the Lowrance would require a separate $600 StructureScan system to accomplish the same thing. Am I correct?

You are correct on the 600.00 part. Ihave a 997 and just recently got talked into buying a hds10. I like how the HB has preset screen buttons The 10 you have to flip through pages to select screens. The 10 has 2 transducers where the HB has both in one. Other than that they seem to do the same job. The 10 is a little clearer. As far as cust. service I havent had any trouble with either. I will know more this year once I use them more.
