    Default 998c si installation?

    Hey guys,
Just bought a new boat and new 998c si. Im having trouble installing the gps receiver. I removed the pigtail cap from the receiver cable. I have the green wire, not the red wire.... I have a Y cable that reads...NMEA-COM and ACCY-COM. Both have plug ends on them. Do I have to cut one of these wires or am I missing something?

    Thanks,
    Cody

My GPS receiver did not come with a plug end on it, just a cap to pull off to expose wires. It has instructions that talk about green wire or red wire but nothing about where to hard wire em into. I guess I will give the folks at Humminbird a call tomorrow. I havent a clue when it comes to electronics.

Normally in past models the wire coming from the GPS puck had plug on the end and this(could only be) plugged into the Y cable plug marked NMEA-COM the ACCY plug is for weathersense and there's a short wire with a pigtail cap that is for accessories which we don't use on this accs plug also. the bottom of the "y" in y cable should plug into 998. So this is a new one on me.

Can you post a picture of the cable end? I would think the H/B GPS antenna would have the plug on it. Maybe you got a defective unit?

Your GPS puck should plug into this cable.

The GPS Receiver should have a plug end on it as others have stated. The pigtail cap covers wires in case you need to connect the NMEA 0183 signal to some other device. If your GPS Receiver does not have a 20-foot long cable and connector on it you will need to wait to call Humminbird's Customer Resource folks until Tuesday the 28th as they are on Christmas vacation until than. 1-800-633-1468

Thanks for the help guys. Alan, I have the connector you have posted. Called Humminbird this morning and they are all on vacation. My GPS receiver did not come with a plug on the end. It came with a cap for the wires and a message attached to it.

    HUMMINBIRD GPS CABLE NOTICE

Thank you for choosing humminbird, America's #1 fish finder.
Your GPS Receiver will include one of the wire configurations below. It is important to note the wire colors and connections before you proceed with installation in the installation guide.

    1. Remove the pigtail cap from the GPS receiver cable.
    2. Check the wire colors on the cableand match your cable with one of the illustrations below.
    3. Install the GPS receiver by following the instructions included with your equipment. Use the new cable pinouts shown here to complete the NMEA connection section.

    GPS NMEA OUT=GREEN
    GROUND=BLACK
    CONTROL HEAD NMEA OUT=WHITE

Can I cut the NMEA side of the Y connector(Alan's picture) and hard wire it in?

At work or I would take pictures, sorry guys.

Should have said that there were no instructions with the unit. Only a cd that doesnt mention anything about splicing wires together.

My 998 just plugged in. I definitely would NOT cut anything until I talk with the HB folks. Merry Christmas.
