Default Will the I-Pilot record a path when stowed?

Want to record a long path tomorrow using the gas motor then run it on the I-Pilot. If the troller is stowed but plugged in and communicating with the remote will it record ok? Also has anyone tried to keep the I-Pilot memory alive so the recorded paths are maintained while the motor itself is removed from the boat and stored? I do not dare leave my motor on the boat while at home for fear of it being stolen. Was thinking a small gel cell 12vdc batt hooked up to it before removal "should" keep the memory alive for the next trip to the same lake.
Big plans tomorrow, hope to post up some good slab pics!

I would think If it is communicating with the hand held it will record, as long as it is not in the off position, the way points and tracks are stored in the hand held I thought, so should work.

do you have some sort of quick removable mount for the trolling motor, it would take two guys two hours to get mine off.

Slide your collar down so to keep TM out of water and deploy TM and record. I believe there is a level sensor the unit. This is what I do.

It worked in the stowed position just fine today, to bad the fish did not want to bite very well. Only caught two at 2 pounds each but saw many hundreds on the SI. My motor comes off in a few seconds with the quick mount I have beagle man.

Many of your i-Pilot performance questions, particularly those relating to the Spot Lock and Track Record features, are addressed by the test data on my website:

    Introduction to MinnKota's i-Pilot

Regarding some of your other questions:

The trolling motor must be deployed to record a track. Deploying the motor (I'm talking specifically about Terrova) powers the i-Pilot GPS receiver, which is necessary to record a track. I'm not sure how PowerDrive V2 motors work in this capacity, but it's clear to me that the i-Pilot was designed with Terrova in mind.
