Default Foot contol or hand control TM?

Currently I have a older foot control TM 30lb, mid 90's model. My front pedalstel is small because the boat is only 14ft. Most times I find myself controlling the foot device by hand. I was thinking about upgrading the TM, and trying to decide what size and as well what control method, foot or hand? Any suggestions? Keep in mind I don't want to put a top dollar TM on. Thanks in advance.

You will probably get a lot of different opinions so here is mine..

I have a MK 24v foot control on my 18' Skeeter & it does very well...I have an older model OMC 12v hand control on my 1442 jon boat...I would recommend a hand control for your boat simply for the space restriction..I do, at times, wish I had a hand control on the Skeeter..

Just got an MK Edge with foot control. Works okay, but I haven't gotten the secret of using momentary control! Switch seems too hard to operate and the TM turns when you try to depress it. I have to get my foot in an awkward, tiring position to prevent this. Maybe there is a way to lessen pressure required to operate the switch, but I haven't found one.

I kind of wish it had a separate momentary switch so you could operate it with one foot and steer with the other. Has anyone modified their foot control to add this?

I do like the hands free aspect of the foot control.

My two cents, I would go with a hand control for your boat.

With a foot control, you can continue to fish at all times. If I had to adjust the TM by hand, I'd do nothing but putz with the TM all day long. The only way I can imagine having a hand control is if I tied up at all times while fishing, or use and anchor every time I'm fishing. Cache22, you just need to get out and spend some time using your TM. There's no secret. I have an edge and I've never experienced what you are talking about. You might want to inspect your foot pedal and make sure there isn't anything impeding the momentary switch from working properly. You should be able to push it with one finger without a bunch of pressure and hear it click.

I modify all my TM's this way. Handy to have this switch separate from foot pedal.
