Default Anybody else use a 797 for ice fishing

Got to playing around getting ready for th e big chill up here. started clearing lots of junk out when I noticed an extra mount for my 797. It was off a lesser model but the mount was the same. Found my old quadra beam transducer and an extra power cord and slapped her together.

Now to get the oversized transducer to set level will be a little challenge but do-able. I am thinking this would make a great scout setup instead of my Vex. Once I found the hot spot I would still prefer the Vex.

So does anyone else use their 797 like this. I know if a dummy like me thought of it someone else had to beat me to it. If so how do it work.
I think the SI ducer wouldn't be much good sitting still but I could be wrong .

If it works like I think it out to cut down my hole drilling by 75%. What say you ?

I've used my 1197 on the ice. I've been able to use the Side Imaging function to locate weedlines and rockpiles. Since you're not moving, the images won't have the clarity that you're used to in open water, but you'll be able to figure it out without too much difficulty.

Alot of people use their side finders on icewell 797 to 998- 1197 OK but kinda big to carry around I am told & 1197 uses lots more power equaling need for extra battery. I did some ice fishing with friend we used our 997 as a scouting tool. Got to where we would mark brush pile then using screen pict to tell distance then pace off distance we we could get within 2-3 feet of brush piles, also times we u could see the fish around cribs etc really neat. No you don't use the ducer sitting still.
