Default SD card -depth finder question....

I have a eagle fish elite 480 that has a SD card slot. I'm looking at another gps unit with an SD slot also. Either a humminbird or a lowrance. Can I share waypoints between my eagle and another brand via an SD card?????? Have a great one all, God bless.

You would have to save the wp's from one unit onto the card and transfer them over to the other unit. The units do not read wp's off of the SD card. If it's an other lowrance unit all is good. But if it's a HB unit, you will have to convert them to HB file.

Humminbird has a pc program for waypoint management that reads the GPS information data created on their units....

You will have to register your unit first but the program is free...http://www.humminbird.com/support/Pr...istration.aspx

I'm sure Lowrance probably does also....

Isnt like a Navionics card? I have a HB and a lowrance. They both use the same HD card. Why wouldnt they both read waypoints off the card like they do the maps.

Hey CANE POLE....you have a lowrance don't you???? If so how do u back your waypoints up?????

I got on eagles site today and downloaded 2 programs, 1 of the is a simulator that I really like, allowed me to play with settings and see the differences with out wasting time on the water, learned a few things from it also. The other has somthing to do with waypoints, but I can't for the life of me figure it out. I mean if worse case I got em on the card, and have a note book of a lot of em written down, so that works, just looking for an easier plug-n-play type deal....

RNVINC.....can you add way point with that program to ur card (if you have the cords) then put the card ( not the one from a lowrance/eagle) in to ur finder and download it???

I transfer all data to a sd card, then save in a folder on my computer. Lowrance has a user friendly sd interface where the Humminbird sucks. You can transfer waypoints to the Humminbird from a sd card, but you have to structure the file to do so. I don't use the HB interface. Too many crashes. HB uses a hypertext type file(ht) to save tracks. I don't fool with it. Pain in the azz.

Somewhere in the archives, I explained how to use the SD to transfer waypoints. Talltimber probably got the info. You can probably search the archives of this forum and find it. I use GPS Babel for a file converter. Also, there is an on line gpsBabel converter.

You have to make sure you save the nav data to the SD card from the unit. The file will be data.hwr for Humminbird and data.usr for Lowrance. I assume Eagle has the same data.usr format.

Copy the waypoint file to your PC. This also doubles as your waypoint backup file. Use the freeware program GPSBabel to convert the file format from *.usr to *.hwr or vice versa.

Copy new file to other SD card and put the card in the DF. The Humminbird will automatically load the data.hwr file from the Matrix folder on the card. You have to manually load the file on the Lowrance.
