Well that's why I posted in here before dropping the coin on a new depth finder (most likely two). I assumed when they tagged the HD onto it they were actually adding more resolution.

Greg, any chance they can have a updated version of the software for our 997's and 998's that'll make the picture more clear. I've seen the Lowrance picture now and it's much more clean that the Humminbird. I'm still guessing on alot of things I see where on the Lowrance Si and DI, I'ts ALOT more clean

Ricerocket,
I don’t think that the Di sonar is only 20 degrees. The specs that someone else posted show it as 86 degrees at 455kHz and 55 degrees at 800kHz. Still I have not seen anything in writing from someone at Humminbird so all specs are still “suspect” to me.
DonDon,
I don’t know but would bet that they are always massaging the software to improve it.
Was told by Lowrance person the reason their Di is so much cleaner has to do with their transducer system, not pixels etc. Where HB units take info from the 455 Si crystals and draw/compile a digital Di image, the Lowrance has a Extra set of crystals in their transducer to produce a true Di picture with a lot less interference and corruption.
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.....
