    Default HB Transducers

Is it rare for a new HB transducer to go bad?

for me it would be, I've never had one go bad. Thought I did once, but found out that the head wasn't pushed down in the mount good. Did have a Lowrance shoot thru the hull go bad it doesn,t work when there's water in the bilge.
any body need an antique X3 with power cord and no 'ducer?

Having the same problem after switching the FF from the bow to the console so I'm guessing it's the transducer. Not picking up the bottom. Depth is working fine but not showing bottom contour. Wouldn't mind replacing the one on the console but it's a bear to run a new one.

Check your "Max depth" setting. Doesn't sound like a ducer to me. Set Max depth to "auto" and see if that helps.

Tried that Whiskers. Even reset to original settings and started everything over from scratch. As I mentioned, changed it to the trolling motor and unit worked fine and the one from the trolling motor would not pick up the bottom either. STUMPED except for transducer problem.
Whiskers??? How come you aint out fishing on this fine day?

Sounds like the transducer to me Downwind. If you have it mounted inside-the-hull than it could possibly be that the installation went bad but if it’s mounted on the transom than it is the transducer itself. You could check for damage to the transducer cable but I would just call the Humminbird Customer Resource folks at 1-800-633-1468 and see if they will just send you a replacement. That way you could run the cable for the new one over the transom and across the deck just to test it. If it all works than I would cut the cable on the one you have installed now and use it to pull the new one through (or a string which would be used to pull the new one through).

Is your ducer a dual "200/83 hz" beam ducer? What model unit you got? Thats odd that it would do that. Never seen 1 tell the depth but not show the bottom. Will it show the bottom in simulation mode? Try it in whiteline & structure ID too.

I was gonna go fish'n but our fine weatherman said the wind was gonna be 20+ MPH. It's calm as it can be!

Yes--200/83 hz. It's a HB 385ci. Tried it on whiteline also and structure ID. Even tried it switch fire mode. Simulation mode is working fine. HB is sending a replacement transducer. Good company to do business with!
Sorry about the wind down your way. Need it to settle down. Lake is no place to be when it's blowing like that. Will be down in two weeks. Hoping for Oct. weather pattern to set in. Warm days, cool nights and calm winds.

Replacement transducer came in. Installed and tested. Lit up the bottom like a Christmas tree. Guess they do go bad. Anyway, back in business. Thanks to all that offered advice, and to HB for the customer service.
