I still believe more is better. There is no way to get 2 foot of error from 4 satellites... unless you had base station corrections but I still don't see that happening. I will say this.. I have the 50 GPS system.. Out of the 100 or so waypoints I have marked, it puts me right back on top of them every time. I never tried the 16 GPS system...

Some of you guys seem to be very knowledgable in GPS and how it works....I, myself just barely understand what's going on with the GPS calculations....BUT...

Would some please explain, in layman's terms....

This HB GPS knows my unit is moving at less than 0.5mph..(because it reads down to 0.1mph)
This HB GPS gets that speed from the distinct difference in the coordinates as I'm moving...(albeit very slow)
This HB GPS knows the heading direction of coordinate "a" from coordinate "b" as I'm moving below 0.5mph....(N,E,S,W)
Then why can't this HB GPS show me that heading direction in the icon on the screen below 0.5mph...??

Because someone decide that below a certain speed (which looks to be 0.5mph) that the Humminbird units would not show a directional arrow. My guess is that this was all set up when we had less accurate GPS Receivers and was just never revised. Or maybe they have looked at this again but feel like at those speeds that there is just too much variability in the GPS system and our GPS Receiver still to be 100% all the time.

    Hey Gregg

I love the HB except I don't like donuts for breakfast. I am fat enough.

Good point Greg,...(for your point that this was set up before we had more accurate GPS Receivers).... but now that we have more accurate GPS receivers we would hope that HB would want to be the leader in this electronic niche...

Seems to me that if Garmin can do it..then HB can do it...

I know it's not for you to decide...but I'm sure you personally bring this "donut" issue up (repeatedly) in your meetings because it's obvious you care about us (or you wouldn't be here in this forum trying to help)...

I wonder what the gurus at HB actually tell you every time you bring up the "donut"...?...I guess that's classified though..

You are correct about the triangulation (actually "trilateration" I think) not being "much better"; it is in fact better. Many fishermen want this better resolution though. I’ll have to see if I can get some accuracy numbers of using 4, 8 or 8+ satellites from our GPS guru.

Question: While a GPS Receiver that can track 16 satellites may not have twice the real accuracy of a GPS Receiver that can track only 8 satellites; if it costs close to the same money which would you buy?
Hey, I believe our threads here are very informative.

Did you find out about the accuracy by additional satellite by numbers?

If that many fishermen wanted the real high accuracy, why did HB discontinue the high accuracy receiver?

Is the 50 channel receiver a multiplexer or sequential type? It can't be a 50 channel parallel receiver. I believe HB is using the Ublox chipset. Am I not right?

I may be retired and workforce displaced, but I am still curious about this stuff.

    I appreciate your time here.
