You shouldn't ever let a battery go more than 30 days without fully charging it and checking the electrolyte level.
Don't think that was the problem as the troll motor battery was still charged up. I trolled for over a half day on it and it was still going strong.

I just noticed that when i start the outboard with the 997 0n it shuts it off. Is that cause the start battery is going bad or not charged enough. the 997 is hooked to fuse panel connected to start battery. But spins the engine fine.

Could be the battery, but probably a ground wire. I'm still chasing
mine. In diagnostic mode I'm reading 12.6-7, but I get a low voltage
indicator usually on 2nd crank. I'm pretty sure it's a ground somewhere.

Sorry, you guys are right. Batteries don't self discharge. It's apparently just a myth I learned in engineering school, or in the 11 years I spent working for the Navy in battery testing. They stay fully charged all the time. I don't know why people even waste the money on chargers.

Well my battery drained down again this time over night so I just went and bought me a new one. That one was only 11 years old (nationwide battery) so I guess I got my money's worth out of it. Hope this one lasts that long. (never gonna happen)
