    Default Finding Brush Piles

Okay tell me what I'm doing wrong....I've been really dilly dallying with my 997 this year trying to find brush piles....I can print some great pictures of what I would consider "big" timber but when I go by brush piles that I know are there I can't make them out...Heres most of my setting,

    range - 3x the depth
chart speed - equal to gps speed
    sensitivity 11-13

    Any suggestions?

Brush piles are sometimes very difficult on the SI units...mainly because brush piles are usually very water logged which doesn't leave much for the sonar to bounce off of....

When I pass a brush pile that I know is there...I look for something different than the surrounding echos on the screen.... a shadow out of place, a lighter spot on the screen, a darker spot on the screen,....

Sometimes it helps to make a recording passing by the brush pile and then load that recording into Humviewer (at home)for review and compare the Humviewer images next to the HB unit's images...

Brush piles show up much better in Humviewer because Humviewer uses the raw sonar data to compile it's images...where the HB unit uses filters and data processing to "try" and create the best image on the screen...

Once you see the brush pile in Humviewer and then compare it to the same brush pile image in the HB unit..then you can get an idea of what to look for on the HB screen to ascertain what a brush pile looks like on the HB unit...

It's takes some getting used to but keep studying recordings in Humviewer next to the HB unit ....at the same time..

You might think about building a DC/AC converter so that you can take your HB unit into the house next to your pc to view the recordings on the HB unit and Humviewer at the same time...
