Time for an update to this 2010 product report.

I'm now using i-P remote replacement rubber cover #2. Replacement #1 delivered 82 trips (about 900 fishing hours) before the rubber failed. This time, the cracks developed more gradually & were limited to the "left" and "right" buttons--the most used controls on the device. Clearly, the material & construction in the first replacement cover outperformed the original cover--4 to 1. (Did M-K improve the part or was I luckier with part #2?) If replacement #2 performs no better than #1, it should fail shortly before the Terrova's warranty expires. At this rate, I will start paying for replacement parts early in 2013.

Here's an update on mine while we're at it. My right steer button rubber cover has failed. I sent a message to MK on 06-28-11 and have not heard back from them. I sent anothe message on 07-08-11 and still have not heard back from them. First time I've gotten such a slow response from them on anything. Sorta takes the bubbles out of my coke a little bit on them. When I do get ahold of 'em, I'll see if I can't get a warranty replacement and order a spare while I'm at it.

My M-K authorized repair shop is just under 4 miles away, so I take all my TM problems to Josh and he contacts M-K for warranty authorization. First time, M-K asked a few questions and then shipped him a replacement remote--not just the cover, the whole unit! Most recently, they authorized the warranty replacement of the rubber cover after a brief conversation. No charge both times & quick service.

Update: Called MK this AM and talked to a nice guy. They shipping my replacement cover and I should have it in 4 or 5 days. Prolly only took 3 minutes on the phone to confirm my address and what not. That put the bubble back in my coke on 'em.

Richard, is this Virginia Trolling Motor (formerly Wells) on Jeff Davis? Thanks in advance.

#4. After 12 to 15 trips, another busted rubber cover on my iPilot remote. This one performed about the same as the original unit (see picture at the top of this thread.) Rubber around all of the frequently used keys was shot.

Are you ready for another replacement Wannabe...?

Mine is still holding up.....course, I don't fish but maybe once a week average. 2 trips in a week is fairly rare for me. Corker, you see that announcement about the redesigned remote? Suppose to be available 1st of the year and one thing mentioned was beefed up cover for the boats.

That will certainly be an improvement. I don't care how hard you use a product - if it's top-of-the-line it should last more than 15 trips. Both the Terrova and the iPilot work great. It's a shame this component blemishes an otherwise excellent product.
