    Default need a little help

Was on the lake yesterday and the trolling motor (Minn Kota Maxxum 74#) was running fine thenjust stopped. Hit the foot pedal and it would just make a humming noise. Any ideas what might be wrong. I took the prop off and nothing wrapped around the shaft. Batteries are fine.

Check all your connections to be sure they are clean and tight. If they are good check for water intrusion in the motor.

Do I check in the motor housing itself? If it does have water is it pretty much done?

    Default Can

you turn the prop by hand? It should turn without any grinding or roughness. They can be rebuild at a service center cheaper that a new one.

I can turn it by hand and seems normal. When I hit the pedal the prop will move maybe an 1/8th of a turn then thats it. The humming noise sounds like its coming from the foot pedal.

Try it again and when it stops give the prop a spin and see if it takes off. If water is in there it can be cleaned out and the motor resealed.

Tried spinning it by hand and no go. Just gives a little jump when I first hit the pedal. Still not sure where the humming noise is coming from. Sounds like it is from the pedal but hard to tell.
