I believe you are referring to a broken steering cable, if you are saying you move the foot pedal but the motor will not turn, its a cable.

I have a 2003 Tracker Pro Crappie 175. The Motor Guide trolling motor isn't working right. It gets power to the foot pedal so that part is okay. There is a little arrow which points the way the motor is turned. The part next to the prop that goes under water, turns around and around. No control at all.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks, Peke

Had this happen to me once.....very frustrating after driving 1 1/2 hours to get there....that sucker spun like a top....I kept fooling with it and it went dead....found out the cables had come off the pulleys and cut the elec wires in the head...so I wouldn't fool with it till you check it out...
non-the-less.....I found a cypress tree with lots of "knee's" and limbs so I just tied up and caught a mess for supper.....
good luck,
Bruce

Thanks! Is that good news or bad news? repair or buy a new trolling motor? Easy to repair or take it to a boat repair shop?
Is the trolling motor like a regular motor where it has to be in water or hooked up to a hose before you start it? Can it be tested without being in the water?
Thanks!
Peke
If it is just a cable it can be repaired.
the motor is water cooled,
the cable could be broken or just come off the pulley. Look under the foot pedal first for cable problems. I would think it reasonable to repair it as opposed to a new one. My guess not over $100. I had a good friend to fix mine (IOU payback). If you are a "handy man" I would tackle it myself.
First, I would "google" for "authorized Motor Guide dealer repair" in your area and give them a call for what they think and the $ repair.
Motor Guide comes with a 2 year warrenty so it looks like you are past that unless there was a recall for that specific problem on your motor.
Hope this helps,
Bruce

Thanks. We stopped by the Tracker shop and they gave me a name of a repair shop. The guy at Tracker looked at it. He said it is something in the directional arrow part. I forgot what he called it. My husband doesn't know how to fix it, so we will probably take it to the repair guy and hope it is not too expensive. We may also "trade up" at the repair shop if they have anything good. Wish I could afford a Minn Kota....
Thanks,
Peke
