i have the new Minn Kota i Pilot it wasn't locked in all the way when I stowed it away . I was on the water was going about 40 when I seen it was slipping .Nothing I could do it deployed in a second I shoved gear shift down went to far into reverse . Fishing partner ran up front pulled motor back up good thing was no damage at all to trolling motor this thing is tuff . My 150 yamma didn't come out so well cost me a lower unit . Just a word of caution to all make sure your i pilot is locked in when you stow it I'm sure it's my fault was in a hurry .
Thanks for letting us know this can happen!!! I will make sure it is locked in.

A new LU....ouch.
Lot of guys don't know it, but the worst thing you can do when you're trimmed out and running and come into an emergency situation is to kill the throttle. Most of us dont' run a high performance boat, but an 18 footer with a 150 and maybe a 115 on a 17 footer. If you're on Pad and kill the throttle, you're subject to have a hull come down and hook the boat on you. It's hard thing to make yourself not do though in a split second. You should trim down before coming out of the throttle.
'Course, this probably doesn't apply to you, if you were only doing 40, but it came to mind so I thought I'd post it for somebody that might not know. Hook a hull, just once, and you will remember it though.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
