    Default HB 898 Problem!

Got my new HB 898 a couple weeks ago and took it to my local lake to see how it worked. Everything worked great and learned quite a bit about the unit. Then.... I get to Kentucky Lake and turn it on and the screen says "No GPS Fix". I can't get the maps, speed, waypoints I had loaded, nothing that had to do with the GPS. Found a dealer in the area and they had a new reciever and hooked it to my unit. Worked great!!! Paid $159 for the new reciever and got it to the boat. Worked great for our trip. Called Humminbird to see about a reimbursement since it is under warranty and they will not do that. Will either replace my old one that is broke or give me equal value in an accessory. Not real happy with this. I may take the replacement and put on e-bay or classifieds here. Kudos to John at Jet-A Marina for his help!!!

JT, I have a 788 and 998 & takes some getting used to but the GPS takes a few minutes to aquire fixes. That caused me to think that mine didn't work too. Don't know if that's what you were dealing with or not.

We tried it all morning while fishing with just 2D sonar. Never did work. New one worked right away.

Maybe you could contact the store where you bought the replacement and offer to send them the one from Humminbird. Then they could credit you for the one you bought.

Always heard Jet-A is good folk. Good idea on the swap out with the dealer. They might work with ya.
