Lowrance seems to have made some units that will render some good pictures however their prices are not in the same ball park as humminbird. You can get a 998 for around 1800 if you shop around and Lowrance's comparable unit will cost you at least $500 more. You may notice from posts online now that Lowrance is making a push to improve CS, and several positive posts from users are proving that point.

Also, If you buy an HDS8 with insight, and an lss-1 versus and 998 with NVB there is a 100.00 difference. Not really that much.
