I agree. Is that not what true competition is. If someone wants to sell a $1000.00 item and make $25.00 and stay in business that should be fine. Since a lot of these internet retailers have items drop shipped from the factory to the customer, then the factory can see what is happening, where sales are going and for what price. They then control the price because as stated Cabellas, BBC, etc, tell them they are not selling any product and want to make a high mark up. Then they threaten the accounts tha tif they continue to sell at the price they want they are no longer an account.
I thought price fixing was illegal???
I wish there was a way, we as the consumers could stop this, because we are the ones losing.

MAP pricing is common not only in the fishing biz. The mfg does that for 2 reasons. One to protect the price of their product from becoming a commodity due to a price war and two, to protect their customers (the retailers) from undue profit margin squeeze due to price slashing. The retailers are welcome to sell them for $1 each if they want, but are only allowed to advertise at the MAP price or higher. This is true for H'bird and Lowrance and has been for a long, long time. Nothing new. Although the enforcement may have been stepped up recently with the side imaging tech. coming to market and Lowrance bringing theirs as well.

Any one ever priced/bought from humminbirdfactoryoutlet.com? They have the 798ci listed at 873.95with free shipping. Anyone know if these are reconditioned?

A side note: There are merchants out there right now asking hundreds of $$ more for a 997c SI than I paid for my 998c SI. Think they'll get it? They must think so. :rolleyes:

They are not affilated with Humminbird. They just have the name. I believe they sell new units.
