Default Advice on mounting transducer on back of G3 1648 Jon boat.

Out of all the boats I have owned, never had a problem mounting a transducer for high speed running. I am mounting a transducer that came with a Lowrance hook 5 DHI and it works fine until I hit about 20 mph then quits giving me the depth. Jon boat is a flatbottom new 1648 G 3 and the motor isa tiller new 25 Yamaha and top speed is around 27 mph and would like it to show bottom depth when running. I have it mounted to the right side of the motor about 10 inches from motor as your looking at the back of the boat and motor, in between ribs and rivets of the bottom and now have moved it about a inch below the bottom of the boat. Motor is also mounted on a Bob's Machine Trim and Tilt plate also. Any tips from you Jon boat owners would be appreciated.

Maybe is there a way to adjust the hook 5 as I do have the ping set fastest setting.

Move it further away from your motor

How about dropping it lower into cleaner water? Inch or more below the bottom of the boat?

I have the same problem. Never been able to read if in 30 or 40 FOW running over 20 MPH. I have an adjustable spring loaded mounting bracket on mine but I still can't get it to read in all conditions. I have a HDS7 touchscreen.

Friend of mine told me about a guy he knew, cut a square hole in his Jon boat replaced the aluminum with a square piece of thick plexi glass and mounts the transducer on it permanently to shoot thru plexi glass and it works perfectly, but I ain't doing that. LOL. I can move it away to the side from the motor and play with it some more.

When you do that put the bottom front even with the hull and drop the back about 3/8 of an inch and try it.

I did that this afternoon before leaving the lake I was fishing and only ran about a mile and noticed a big difference but was in a bit of a hurry to beat a rain squall to load up. I will move it and do that too and keep messing with it. If any body else as any ideas, please post them.

There are reports of the ping speed on Max is creating some weird issues with the Lowrance units ...

Back the ping speed off 1 click ...
    -----

Have someone drive the boat while you peek over the transom at speed ...

If there is "white colored" water close the to xducer = that's bubbles coming off your hull ...

The spot you want the xducer tracking thru will have water flowing past the transom that is the same color as the lake water color ...
