It's basically the same unit as the 565. I used to have a 525 on an old jon boat that worked fine for what I used it for.

I just installed, (with help from E-Z) a 788ci combo. It looks great, but I don't know how to fish with it yet. Going on the water tomorrow, with the users manual, to try to learn. Planning to add a 998 soon.

With a 20 deg beam you see a circle under the boat about 1/3 of your depth. 30 foot of water 10 foot area. With the 60 degree you will see a area equal to your depth 30 water / 30 foot area. Also on my 778 I notice at high speed the 200 Hz (20 deg) can see the bottom well while the 83 Hz (wide does not)
If fish ID is on, the icons show up in two difference colors so you can tell if the "fish" is under the 20 deg or 60 deg cone. With HB I would get a dualbeam plus unit.

I bought a 570 a couple months ago and so far am pretty happy with it. I mounted it on my tm and use it primarily for locating cover. You're correct that it has dual beam capability but note that it isn't selectable. You'll always see returns from both beams. Like WE16 said the fish icons appear different depending on which frequency the return is coming from but I typically have fish id turned off. I definitely prefer the wider cone transducer since I use it for locating structure. I do like the fact that it has a high resolution display compared to most sonars in it's price range. 620 vertical pixels I believe.
