Default Trying to download an update?

I went to the HB website and I'm trying to open the download for my 778C but it is telling me I need the following; File Type: Binary Data File

    File Extension: .bin

Description: No known program will open this file. This file is part of a program. You may search the following Web site for related software and information:

    Is this correct?

    Thanks,
    Lynn

Down load then send to the memory sd card, don't open file. The Hb will upgrade from this file from the sd card.

Wherever the download went to (prob download folder) just right click the downloaded file then arrow over to the sd card drive then left click. Just put this in the unit and it will automatically upgrade itself from the downloaded bin file.

Canepole's directions will work for a unit that accepts the MMC cards, but your unit doesn't, as I have one. I just did the update on mine so I could figure it out, it's a mite cornfusing! First you have to have the Humminbird PC program, I hope you have downloaded it. Next you have to log onto the Humminbird site with your user name. It will list your unit there, and show the updates available. Select the download you want, then select to save it. I saved mine to a place in MY Documents. Next connect your 778C to your computer with the PC cable and the power cable. Power the unit up and hit Menu right away, then select PC connect from that menu. Now start the Humminbird PC program. Once it starts, it should find your unit. Near the top left there are 3 boxes, the first one, which I think is yellow, (I'm color blind) has a circular arrow in it. If you click on that box, a window should pop up asking you for the file. Type in the location and the file name, then go from there. When I started Humminbird PC, it found my unit but said no updates available. I just ignored it and hit the yellow box with the circular arrow.

Look on page 39 of your owner's manual for the over view of what you need to update.

You'll need to buy an AS PC2 cable to connect your fish finder to your PC.
Next, you need to register your unit with Humminbird by setting up an account and then you'll log in and download the latest version of HumminbirdPC.

    Install it.

This is important! Before you connect your fish finder to the computer and attempting an update restore your unit to its factory defaults. If you don't, you run the risk of having a problem and having to send your unit to Humminbird for them to make a fix that only the factory can make. Look at page 73 of your owner's manual for instructions on how do to this. (This option is under the Setup menu tab.)

Now run HumminbirdPC and connect your unit following the instruction with the AS PC2 cable. Follow the instructions to update your unit.

Now, before doing all this, you might want to write down all the changes and settings you've made to the unit, such as depth offset, scroll speeds, etc.

Lastly, before trying to use the unit, reconnect on the boat and reset the factory defaults again.

Now you can go back and reset all your preferred settings.

You may still need to follow what the others have said about downloading the .bin file and putting it someplace where you can point to it manually.

    Good luck.
