Default question for HB interlink users

I am wanting to buy the 898 to mount at the console and link to a new DF at the trolling motor. Which units are capable of interlinking at the trolling motor? Any suggestions based on storage of waypoints and price?

    Thanks.

HB to HB is what I have. I dont think you can interlink a HB to Lowrance. Some Goo Roo like Cane pole might rig something. With the HB interlink when you mark a spot it instantly shows up on the other unit. I think it is well worth the money. I wont be without one . Not for long.

I believe you meant what HB's will be compatible: anything that is a 700 series, 800, 900, or 1100 series is interlink compat.

The first question you have to ask yourself is, "Do I want Side Imaging/Down Imaging at the bow?"

If so, then you'll need a 798, 898, 998, or 1197 up there, and you'll have to rig an SI transducer on your trolling motor.

If not, then you're looking at a 788, 858, 958, or 1157, and you can use the US2 in your MinnKota.

The second question you have to ask yourself is, "How large of a screen do I want/need?"

I ran a 788 at the bow of my boat last year. Great unit, did everything I asked it to do, but I found myself wanting a larger screen. I'm replacing it with an 858 this year.

Don't forget the current retail promotion for 858s, 958s, and 1157s bought during most of 2010: free RAM mount and free Weathersense accessory (a very lucrative offer, given the cost of most RAM mounts!)

Another alternative is to try to find a closeout 917 for the bow, but those are getting VERY hard to find as most retailers have been blowing them out for ~ $650.

Default I am planning to go HB to HB

I want my side scan at the console, but I want to be able to transfer GPS waypoints to another unit at the bow attached to the trolling motor.

I am thinking 898 at the console, but wanted an inexpensive unit up front. Good point about wanting a bigger one after putting a cheaper unit in - does the 700 or 800 series (not side scan) have more memory as far as waypoints? Faster processor?

    Thanks for all the replies.

It can also be used with the following Matrix units.
    MATRIX 10,12,15,17,20,25,27,35,37,45,47 3D,55,65,67,77C,87C,97.

I have a 777 up front and the size never bothers me. Most places I fish, I know what structure is there so basically just use the unit for gps points. Works for me. I am wanting to add a unit up front that has down imaging capabilities.

fishindude you are on top of it. The units that are compatible with the Interlink is any 700, 900 and 1100 Series Products.

    Default Does it matter

if the 700 unit has internal GPS or external GPS capability when interlinking?

    Sakedog,
The 800 series units will have a 3,000 waypoint storage maximum. Depending on which 700 series unit you get it will have either the same 3,000 waypoint storage or only 750 waypoint storage. This will depend on whether it is a trackplotter type unit (no map card slot) or a chartplotter type unit (has internal base map and SD card slots). The 788c and 798c Si units are chartplotter type units.

If the unit uses an internal or external GPS Receiver will not affect whether it can be InterLinked. For the faster GPS refresh rate though you will want each unit to use its own GPS Receiver (internal or external).
