I have used this Guest onboard charger for about 8 yrs. It's got a maintenance mode and it is only slightly warm. It have held up to alot of use and pounding in my alum boat. I run 24v tm and start batteries.
15 Amp Three Battery Application Charger | Marinco
gabowman,I've the Three bank Pro Charger 15 amps. I would reccomend this one that way you can charged all batteries at once. I believe you do alot of night fishing and when using your starting battery for lights and stuff,if fishing all night then that starting battery will be weak. Another thing if you fish few days in a row the 15 amp will charge you up over night, the smaller amp might be ok if you got the time too wait it out. Anyway hope this help's and have a good one.:D

You might want to take a look at the "Stay N' Charge", instead of an onboard charger. This system would extremely cost effective for your application (similar to mine) running under $100.00. It connects to your tow vehicle and charges both your batteries while you travel to & from your fishing destinations.
No bulky on-board charger. No heat generated. And no need to plug anything in when you get home. Best of all, your batteries will be getting charged immediately after you pull off the water. Anyone will tell you, the quicker you put them on charge, after running them down, the better.
2010 will be my 5th. season with a series 27 and a starting battery onboard my boat. No problems, no worries. It will be worth your time to look at it.

+++ with the dual pro chargers. Have used them for years and never a problem. Have heard you can get a refurb from them for under $200 with a one year warranty. I know of one refurb unit that is 4 years old and still running strong.
I guess that when you would need to plug in the on board charger!!
