Lorance's "Down Scan" is like the new "Down imaging that Humminbird just released... the Low is a harware add on though and is is expensive compared to the free DL sooftware upgrade from Humminbird.

It's expensive cause you have to buy it if you want side imaging on either unit. For both brands you can buy the unit without the imaging. Lowrance offers it as an add-on to the HDS units.

they are asking legit how much you want to spend for 1 or 2 units... there is a lot of varience between types/costs/fetures of units

Yes it would be like " I want to buy a car. " We have no idea where to begin. What is CRAZY for you may be a beginning price for others. This is one of the most helpful sites on the web. But you need to supply a more definite question with as much info as you can.

An example question might go " what the best two fishfinders could I install on my boat for under a 1000.00. I fish mainly for walleye and sauger. My boat is a XXX and is XX footer.

Now guys have a little ammunition to work with.

I would like to help but my knowledge is ridiculously limited. Find a tackle shop around your area, a lot of them have ff out on display and you can go and play with them. Once you do that and check out the prices and kinda get a mindset of what you want then ask these guys about the specific ones you are looking at. From what I have read humminbird and lowrance run a pretty close race, it is personal preference. I have a inexpensive humminbird that came from wal-mart that my wife bought me like 5 yrs ago. It shows me how deep and the water temp and kinda what Im over. I would love to upgrade but the check book won't allow it. You can get a wealth of knowledge from folks on here, they just need specifics. Hope I helped some. If I could go shopping tomorrow this is how I would go about it.

Get a couple middle of the road Humminbird products.

Now if you really want what I think the best sonar is, disreguarding GPS?

Go crazy and get a couple Vexilar Edge IIIs.

Lowrance someday, without bugs, and with customer service will be a good choice too.
