    Default Question about DI

I am now saving for a SI imaging unit for the console..Probably a HB 898 unless FUDD's Lowrance looks better...

I would also like to put a DI unit at the trolling motor...Does Lowrance or HB offer a DI unit without having to buy a SI unit? I think a SI unit at the trolling motor would be useless..

HB's SI comes with the unit, built into the transducer.

Lowrace, you have to buy the $600.00 kit. My understanding is you could hook your trolling motor unit to the Lowrance SI kit, but you'd be seeing what's behind the boat. To me that would be rather useless because the GPS would be off by a ton if you tried to mark waypoints.

With the HB haveing SI transducers on both would allow you to use the interlink to share the waypoints and routes between units.

Don, I don't think DI comes without SI at this time. But why would SI be useless on the TM? You could make a pass by each dock and check for dots under it and decide to move on or fish. And when fishing more open water, you can spin the motor and scan. Spot a school of fish and focus on them.

Good point Dayton...I have read so many posts that said you need to running 3-5mph & in a straight line to get a good reading...I am new to the SI-DI scene and have a lot of questions...

I don't think my trolling motor will pull my boat 3-5mph...However, I am replacing a 12v with a 24v motor...

90% of my DF use is from the front so it would be nice to have the good unit up front..

I just can't see having to cough up extra money for a 2nd SI unit when the DI would be good up front after getting close with the console unit..

Just trying to put all this stuff together..

Don, I just put a transducer up front for my 997. It works. As long as you are moving it works. 0.5 mph will work. As will sitting still and spinning the trolling motor. Not perfect on spinning the motor. My MK PD turns faster than I would like. But it works. And when keeping the motor straight and motoring along, works as well as any transom mount with gas motor.

I mounted a 15" flag pole up front with a RAM ball on top to raise the unit for better viewing. Feel free to hook up with me for a demo before you spend money.

I agree with Dayton. Mount that sucker up high. It is so much easier to watch and fish at the same time with it mounted eye high.

You will have to have a SI unit to get the NEW DownImaging Sonar coming out this month.

Cane, would you post a close up of your pivoting Tbar knuckles? I'd like to copy or imitate them on the front of mine. I got a couple guys at work that are good on the mill and lathe.

    Thanks,

    Dayton
