best to use matched batteries though

If i hook up two batteries with the parallel circuit will that increase the power output of my trolling motor or will it just enable me to troll for a longer period of time?

It will just give you twice as long trolling time.

Bow mount - way more betterer.

I will offer this though. Transom will flat out stink in comparrison, but it will work. Trim your big motor up to reduce drag. IF and a BIG if, you can get a transom mount 24V Minn Kota Maxxum on the cheap (they run 400 ish new) say from Craigs list - don't see 'em listed much, I'd give it a whirl. Your compromise will be that the steering will flat out stink requiring constant input, especially in a cross wind. The reason I say 24V is you'll want to clip at a good pace. While the 12V 55 will do it, it requires higher settings (say 80&#37, while the 24V will relatively lope at 50%. I also say Maxxum only because it will be variable control and have the digital maximizer to conserve battery power. The higher the setting, the less benefit you get though.

Now, if you can do all that on the cheap, go for it and you'll have a solution. If you can't do it on the cheap, keep saving the $.

BTW, the outboard noise is not really a detriment IMO.

A lot like the old Wannabe... except with fewer bad words. And Karate chop action. But, yes, still purtier than you.
