Original HBSi software version

I've been reading and researching a lot here at CC and on the side imaging forums trying to learn as much as possible about this unit before I get one because ,frankly, I'm the OCD type and "learn before purchase" is just what I do....

Time and time again I'm reading disturbing stories about HBSi owners having problems with their units....often (but not always) caused by software updates gone awry.....sometimes even causing the units to have to be returned to HB for servicing....

The general advised remedy for this (before sending the unit back to HB) seems to be "try to revert back to an earlier version of software"...sometimes even reverting back to the original version that came on the unit from the factory....

My question is....Is it possible to download (from the unit or HB) the original version of software that the unit came with from the factory right out of the box, brand new, before any updates are loaded onto the unit and load this original version onto a dedicated SD card...??

Having this original version of software (in hand) would seem to be a valuable piece of insurance in the unfortunate instance where one were having troubles with an update install and needed to revert back to the original version that the unit came with.....

This would all depend on which software came in your unit and what is currently available on the Humminbird web site. Usually these units don't stay on the shelf for long so the same version software may be the latest update available on the Humminbird web site. If it isn't you can always e-mail me directly to get an older version of software or go to this web site:

You will have to join the site to be able to download the software but its free. You might want to grab some free Si and 2D sonar viewing software while you are at it too. These guys are a great resource for using Si sonar.

If I spend as much as you guys do on anything, I'm going to research it as well.

Yes, that site Humminbird_Greg refers to has some really great info.. a must read for me at least once a week.........after c.com of course:D

I have been learning a lot from that site as well as the Yahoo Groups side imaging site.....

So, as soon as I get my unit, I'll be finding out what version is on the unit and looking for a copy of the software to have on hand....
