The ContourXD maps are supposed to have actual depth contour lines on some of the lakes versus no depth contour lines on the UniMap lakes. Don’t expect the same depth contours you see on the HD lakes of the Premium and Platinum map cards from Navionics though. I’ve heard that these are only 10 or 20 foot contours.

The Humminbird factory outlet store has the 798ci SI Combo for $864.95.

    1. Is that a good price and does it come with the Down Imaging feature?

    2. If it doesn't come the DI feature, will I be able to update the software so it will?

    3. Will the 798ci SI be able to split the screen 3 ways?

    4. If it doesn't split the screen 3 ways, will I be able to update the software so it will?

    Thanks

    Bill,
    1. None of the units has the Down Imaging software yet. It has not been finalized and released.

    2. Yes you will. This will be another software upgrade that will be available from the Humminbird web site.

3 & 4. I don’t know the answer to this because the software for Down Imaging has not been completed. I doubt that you will be able to though due to the size of the display itself. If the 798’s display were divided 3 ways each would be so small that you could not see the detail of the Si or Di sonar.

Thanks Greg, one more question. Will the 798ci SI be able to show the down image on the entire screen (no split image) once I do a software update

    Bill,
I’m just guessing here because I have not seen the Di software in any of the units yet – but my guess would be that there would be a Di sonar only View on the entire screen in the 7978 units.

I would have to agree with Greg on this one. I have not been on the water with a 798 but my guess it will and the reason I say this is because the 1197 and the 997 will have the DI Sonar View feature. I have seen the 1197 and the 997 on the water and it looks very good. This is where all of the images came from on Lake Eufaula, except for what Jason has posted.

Will the 1197 with the new Di firmware update still be able to split the screen in 2 ( as previous versions) as well as 3...??

    Yes.

Here are two examples from my 1197 running the pre-release DI software.

Many "traditional" 2-way split screens are possible. The only 3-way split is DI/2D/SI.

Well, I should qualify my answer by saying that in my pre-release version of DI, the only 3-way split available is DI/2D/SI. Since the finishing touches are still being put on the software package, the version released to the public may differ from mine. However, I would expect AT LEAST the 3-way split that I currently have access to.
