    Default New Gps Response Enhancement

    NEW GPS RESPONSE ENHANCEMENT

One of the new software changes that has just been released for 2010 models currently being built (and January for older models and new 2010 models as they are released) is an enhancement that will allow the GPS receiver to update 4 times faster than it previously updated. Below is a list of the units that have the new software download available on Humminbird.com now.
    718, 728, 778c, 788c, 788ci, 798c, 798ci, 1157c, 1197c

All other GPS combo models will have this new feature available January 2010.

This enhancement will result in a smoother response from the boat icon on the screen when driving to waypoints and other areas of interest. There is no menu setting or adjustments that have to be made to the units to enable this new feature. It will happen automatically when the new software is loaded into the unit.

    IMPORTANT!
One very important topic related to this new enhancement is that the 4 times faster GPS update will not transmit through the INTERLINK box. Therefore, the GPS receiver(s) in the boat will have to be wired in a specific manner to allow the 4 times faster GPS response to work correctly. For boats that are utilizing INTERLINK systems there are two main setups. One is where there is (1) GPS receiver servicing both units on the boat and the other one is with (2) GPS receivers (one in the back and one in the front). Attached are illustrations showing how the GPS receivers, Interlink box, cabling and Y-cables should be connected in order to enable the 4 times faster GPS.

IMPORTANT NOTE: On the setup that only utilizes (1) GPS receiver the 4 times fast and will only work on the back unit and will not work on the front unit that is connected to the INTERLINK. You MUST have (2) GPS receivers hooked up per the illustration below in order to get the 4 times faster to both units.

If you have individual GPS receivers for each unit and aren’t using Interlink then you will get the 4 times faster GPS response.

First of all the Interlink use is for sharing waypoint from one unit to another. So if you create a waypoint on your console unit it will store the waypoint on the console unit and also stores the waypoint on your interlink and then transfers the waypoint to your bow unit. The interlink still serves it purpose of sharing waypoints.

Just trying to git my monies worth.

With Joby's arrangement above, looks to me like the "Interlink" becomes the "weakest link".

You fellers at HB keep on trying. I like you.

I use the interlink, and have 2 gps pucks. To me that's the way to do it. Helps ensure that I'm as close as possible to what I've marked. If you used 2 unit and one puck, one of the units would be pretty useless for pinpointing what you marked.

I think there is some confusion as to how a GPS works. Your pucks or transducers have nothing to do with the actual marking of a waypoint. They only allow you to see what you want to mark. When you mark something, that location is marked where the antenna is at that time. For instance if you have your transducer on the stern of your 20' boat and a GPS with an internal antenna on the bow, your waypoint is already 20' off. Is this not true Joby or am I leaving something out?
