No debate here about it CP. There are some manufactures that have the NMEA 2000 capability in their units but not all have embraced it. One of the things hoped for with NMEA 2000 was that there would be a specific communications and connection spec to go by. That didn’t happen so what has happened is that the different manufactures have come out with their own versions of communications sentences and connectors just like with NMEA 0183. There is also the issue of NMEA 2000 being able to handle the masses of information that are now being needed to be transferred and made available to the different units and accessories which Ethernet is now supposed to be able to handle. With the addition of Ethernet connections on more of our units I hope that we are just going to make a technological leap-frog (pun in reference to your violin playing frog LOL!) over NMEA 2000 and go straight to Ethernet capability.
