If the break is below he waterline, use dual wall heat shrink on the soldered wires and also dual wall on the cable itself.

Dual wall heat shrink is made for watertight sealing. I use it on my ROV robots and successfully dive 1 atmosphere with no leaks.

Google up dual wall heat shrink and read the specs.

Also,

If your break is in a flex area, if you can,,,, shorten the cable and splice in a non flex area. In flexing areas, I use spiral wrap. Good dodo that spiral wrap. In fact, I wrap most of my wires in the spiral wrap. Looks good and is protected from me.

Nothing special about transducer wires, so don't believe any bullchips.

Is that that stuff that has a coating inside that seals everything as it shrinks? The Navy yard uses it but not sure what its called or how small it comes. I've got a piece thats about 1" ID before its shrunk.

Not sure about the Navy, but this stuff comes in all sizes and colors. This is dual wall heat shrink. There is available triple wall heat shrink. I haven't ever tried it.

This dual wall stuff works good. Don't shrink it with a lighter. I got a paint stripper heat gun I use. Works good.

I highly recommend this over the liquid tape stuff.

My metal gas tank ('57 era) sliced up my transducer wire. I spliced up the wire and the sonar worked great, however the temp didnt. This past winter I respliced, same result. I bought a new transducer, still no temp reading. What ever happened took out the temp in the Hummingbird unit. It constantly shows 99 degrees. I hope you dont have the same problem.

Anybody know how to fix the temp reading on the unit?

Send it into Humminbird to fix.

Its a PMax 220, not sure it will be cost effective to have it fixed.

I you lived here, I would fix it for free. I guarantee my work. I have been "fixin" since the green box first came out.

Not sure if this makes a difference.
I have some electrical experience (3 years as an electrician), and some electronic experience (high school 20+ years ago). My youngest son is an electrical engineering student (jr.) and I am sure he could find his way around the circuit board, if he knew what to look for and repair.

I have some electronic expeirence and my youngest son is a electrical engineering student, jr. Is this something we could tackle?
